This study investigated the acoustic variation of songbirds’ vocalization during mobbing event in the sub-alpine forests using playback experiment and automatic acoustic recording (AAR). We played Glaucidium brodiei vocalization and Phylloscopus trochiloides alarm call to induce songbirds’ mobbing behavior and recorded their response vocalizations using automatic acoustic recorders in the Abies-Picea dark coniferous forest in Wanglang National Nature Reserve, Sichuan Province, during the summer of 2021. Altogether 24 experiments were performed on 12 experiment sites, with a total length of 1057 min acoustic recordings, including 12 G. brodiei vocalization experiments, and 12 P. trochiloides alarm call experiments. A total of 28 species of birds belonging to 17 families and 3 orders were observed to participate in mobbing behavior. By analyzing the acoustic indexes of recordings, it was concluded that 1) both G. brodiei vocalization and P. trochiloides alarm call could trigger mobbing event, during which Phylloscopidae and Paridae species were the majority being involved; 2) during playback period, songbirds’ vocalizations are more intense (G. brodiei experiments: SPLavg=−31.02±4.87 dB vs −42.74±4.68 dB, p = 0.001; P. trochiloides experiments: SPLavg = −33.26±4.05 dB vs −46.38±4.54 dB, p = 0.001) and less complicated (G. brodiei experiments: H = 0.76±0.02 vs 0.80±0.03, p = 0.001; P. trochiloides experiments: H = 0.77±0.02 vs 0.82±0.02, = 0.001) than that of pre-playback period; 3) the variability of acoustic indices from pre-playback to during-playback didn’t change significantly between G. brodiei experiments and P. trochiloides experiments. The results provide a new insight into avian behavior studies in the acoustic aspect, and novel behavioral application scenarios for large-scale soundscape monitoring data.

LIU Wang, XING Xiaofan, WANG Rong
Acta Scientiarum Naturalium Universitatis Pekinensis    2023, 59 (5): 833-842.   DOI: 10.13209/j.0479-8023.2023.062
Abstract172)   HTML    PDF(pc) (2961KB)(134)       Save
By constructing simple linear regression model in space, global wind power generation potential and wind power density during 2021-2100 are predicted based on the historical data in 1981-2020 including wind speed, wind power density and annual average surface temperature from 1981 to 2020. From 1981 to 2020, the global wind power generation potential and wind power density show a declining trend, whereas the global annual average surface temperature shows an increasing trend, and there is a certain degree of correlation between the two trends. The results of simple linear regression models show that the mean of yearly total continental power generation potential and the annual average surface temperature in 11 regions are well correlated, negatively in most regions. Under different shared socio-economic pathways (SSPs) in the future, there will be large differences in the global total annual average on-shore wind power generation potential. Under the SSP5-8.5 scenario with the fastest temperature rise, by the end of this century, global total on-shore wind power generation potential will be reduced by 3.3% relative to the level in 2020. By contrast, under the SSP1-1.9 scenario with the highest carbon emission reduction, global total on-shore wind power generation potential is likely returning to the level in 2020 as global annual average surface temperature falls in the second half of this century. Compared with the best scenario SSP1-1.9, the wind power density is decreasing on 61% of global lands under the other SSP scenarios. The faster the temperature is rising in a SSP scenario, the more the wind power density values will decline, and the less the potential of wind power generation will be achieved in the future.

Acta Scientiarum Naturalium Universitatis Pekinensis    2021, 57 (3): 395-400.   DOI: 10.13209/j.0479-8023.2021.038
Abstract1101)   HTML    PDF(pc) (677KB)(226)       Save
To provide genetic tools for individual identification of the masked palm civet (Paguma larvata) through DNA analysis, we selected a tissue sample from Laohegou Nature Reserve in Sichuan for constructing microsatellite library by FIASCO. Altogether 250 clones were sequenced and 147 sequences were found containing microsatellite motifs, in which there were 42 sequences with >10 motif repeats. Primer pairs were designed based on these 42 sequences. Through tests for amplification and polymorphism using additional 21 samples of masked palm civets, 5 polymorphic microsatellite markers were obtained. In the meantime, 13 microsatellite markers published previously were tested for the masked palm civet, and found 5 of them polymorphic. Collectively, these 10 markers showed relatively high polymorphism (number of alleles was 2–11, observed heterozygosity was 0.286–0.737, and expected heterozygosity was 0.358–0.906). The values of PID and PID-sib indicated that there would be individuals with completely identical genotypes in about 10unrelated individuals or 104 related individuals. As the size of wild populations in a particular region was greatly lower than this number, these 10 microsatellite markers were sufficient for individual identification for the masked palm civet.

Abstract1055)   HTML    PDF(pc) (6643KB)(195)       Save
A systematic survey was conducted in Tangjiahe National Nature Reserve (TNNR) in Sichuan Province from mid-April to late October, 2014 (13 repeats altogether, about 15 days between repeats). 244 butterfly species were found in total belonging to 12 families and 116 genera, in which the richness of Nymphalidae was the highest (40.2%). There were 4 species protected by Chinese law, and 2 species assessed globally as “least concern” by IUCN Red List. The proportion of Palearctic, Oriental, and Palearctic-Oriental species was 3.3%, 26.7%, and 70%, respectively. There were more butterfly species from June to September. Butterfly species richness increased with elevation rising in 1100–1400 m, and decreased significantly above 1400 m. There were 185 species in common between Tangjiahe Nature Reserve and Laohegou Nature Reserve (LNR), in the context of their adjacency. There were 59 species found exclusively in TNNR, including 30 species with only 1 catching record. There were 67 species found exclusively in LNR, including 36 species with 1 catching record. Difference in geography and management between the two areas may provide specific habitat for the endemic species.

A systematic survey was conducted in Laohegou Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province from mid-April to late October, 2013 (13 repeats altogether, about 15 days between repeats). Supplementary surveys were carried out in 2014 and 2015. 252 species of butterfly were found in total belonging to 12 families and 117 genera, in which the richness of Nymphalidae is the highest (33.3%). During the systematic survey in 2013, there were 235 species found, and 17 species were newly recorded in 2014 and 2015, indicating that almost complete information may be obtained based on our survey protocol. There were 3 species assessed globally as “least concern” by IUCN Red List, and 5 species protected by Chinese law. The proportion of Palearctic, Oriental, and Palearctic-Oriental species was 3.3%, 32.9%, and 63.8%, respectively. Taking the butterfly fauna composition of other districts into account, Qinling and Minshan mountains were found to serve as geographical barrier to the dispersal of Palearctic and Oriental species. The butterfly richness was the highest from June to September. Butterfly species richness was unimodal in general with elevation rising. The highest was in 1500–1600 m, and there was a minor peak in 1000–1100 m, in which the transect lied in a village near the boundary of the reserve, indicating that moderate interference by human activity was conducive to the conservation of butterfly diversity. This work provides an optimized protocol for butterfly monitoring survey.

To supplement the deficiency of the latitude and longitude existed as location code, such as complex description, non-regional characteristics and complex computation, a globe spatial grid reference system is constructed based on GeoSOT from Peking University. The grid system, built from a perfect quadtree with one degree, one minute and one second grid, could be fit for air-earth joint action. It designs a simple and practical location coding method, which also supports distance simple calculation. It could realize multi-source spatial data integrated retrieval, and develop methods of efficient code operation, framework of spatial computing, and 3D-earth grid system. Globe Spatial Grid Reference System will definitely play an important role in the future of big spatial data applications.

Abstract845)      PDF(pc) (404KB)(381)       Save
A novel method is proposed to recognize the ellipsis of opinion target in Chinese text. The approach treats the task of opinion target ellipsis as a binary classification problem, which applies the machine learning algorithm. Then three kinds of features, namely position-independent features of sentence, position-dependent features of sentence and contextual features, are applied to the recognition task separately. The experimental results in three domains demonstrate that the machine learning-based method is effective for the task of the recognition of opinion target ellipsis.

Abstract761)      PDF(pc) (2352KB)(750)       Save
To avoid urban waterlogging and control non-point source pollution, the characters and controls of non-point source pollution for urbanized area by field monitoring and simulating with SWMM were studied, and the effect with LID or BMPs in impermeable area was assessed. Results show that, as a discrete control device for rainfall runoff, LID could decrease the runoff coefficient, peak flow and non-point source pollution effectively. BMPs also could decrease peak flow and non-point source pollution for area studied but it had no effect on runoff volume control. Finally, it could decrease peak flow and non-point source pollution more efficient with the two measures combined utilization and minish the runoff coefficient at the same time.

Abstract662)            Save
Genetic differentiation of Polyura narcaea in China and the effect of Taiwan strait was inferred from DNA sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase Ⅱ(COⅡ). It was showed that there was 0.75%~1% sequence divergence between P. narcaea genes of Taiwan and the mainland. It was estimated that P. narcaea of Taiwan and the mainland differentiated 375~500 thousand years ago. Taiwan strait might effectively obstruct gene flow between P. narcaea of the both sides. Significant sequence divergence between P. narcaea of Taiwan and the mainland might be related to different subspecies. There was significant sequence divergence between different localities in the mainland. Therefore, it was inferred that there might be 2 subspecies of P. narcaea in the mainland of China.

Abstract780)            Save
The hemolymph defence responses of the larvae in last instar of Tenerio moliter were experimentally studied. The results were that: (1) When the larvae were stimulated by a needle and injected with Escherchia coli, Bacillus thuringiensis and sterile saline severally, the total hemocytes count (THC) in all treatments changed regularly in the similar way: first, THC reduced sharply in 15 min postinjection, then three peaks of THC occured within 10h postinjection, but the scope of the change was different. (2) The remnant quantity of bacteria in the larvae reduced gradually when the larvae were injected with the two kinds of bacteria. The peak of THC accompanied with a peak of disinfection. The peak of the rate of relative disinfection occured in 1~2h and 4~6h postinjection. (3) The inducement period of humoral defence of the larvae was 6~8h postinjection, so the cellular reaction occured in the early to microbial invaders and humoral defence reaction participated in 6~8h postinjection.

Giant Faraday Rotation in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors Cd1-xMnxTe and Cd1-xFexTe

Abstract567)            Save
Giant Faraday rotation as a function of photon energy andcomposition for Cd1-xMnxTe and Cd1-xFexTe in temperature range 70K to 300K has been measured by using extinction, alternating magnetic field and magneto-optical modulation methods. Faraday rotation angles are negative and a single-oscillator model fit the data very well for Cd1-xMnxTe with relatively high compositions (x ≥0.1). It is shown that Cd1-xFexTe crystals exhibit the same order giant Faraday rotation cha-racteristic as Cd1-xMnxTe. With relatively low composition x, Faraday rotation angles vary from positive to negative when photon energy closeto the band gap edge, a multioscillator model has been successfully usedto explain the data. Alternating magnetic field method is found to be the best one in this region, however, magneto-optical modulation methodtakes advantages of its high accurate for thin samples or under low magnetic field.
